Our History
The story of Florestania begins with Ellen and Nico, whose experience working with local and migrant communities in the Bolivian
and Brazilian Amazon allowed them to understand firsthand
the social, economic and environmental challenges of the
region. In 2015, they decided to found Florestania with the
goal of promoting sustainable development and
contributing to a dignified life for communities, through
nature-based solutions.

The name “Florestania” comes from the combination of “floresta” (forest) and “citizenship,” a concept created by Antonio Alves and championed by the Amazonian activist Chico Mendes . This vision inspires the creation of a space where the relationship between people and nature is based on respect, regeneration, and sustainability.
